Dissenyat i resignificat a l’atelier O TÈXTIL de Vulpellac

Els Kilims són un tipus de tèxtil sense pèl realitzat amb la tècnica del tapís que es remunta a fa uns 3.500 anys, quan els pobles nòmades de l’Àsia Central els van començar a elaborar per cobrir els terres i les parets de les tendes on vivien, protegint-se del fred o de la calor. També es feien servir per folrar cadires de muntura, cobrir equipatges o protegir els animals durant els nombrosos viatges.

Aquesta peça forma part de RUGS un projecte on exploro les infinites aplicacions de restes de catifes tribals resignificar-ne parts i posant de relleu la seva bellesa i valor històric i cultural.

El procés dels Emmarcats, implica reutilitzar petits retalls de catifes tribals –Ushak i Kilim– provinents de restauracions de peces més grans, aïllant-ne la simbologia. Aquest exercici convida a fixar-nos en els missatges que transmeten, com si es tractés de subratllar una frase en un text. Podem admirar els tints naturals, observar amb detall la trama que dibuixa diverses geometries i, en alguns casos, fins i tot percebre l’ordit –l’esquelet del teixit– revelat pel desgast.
Aquest treball ens connecta amb la història, els oficis tradicionals i l’art intrínsec en cada fil de les catifes.

*La fusta d’aquest marc procedeix de boscos gestionats de forma responsable i ajuda a preservar els recursos naturals i la biodiversitat. La fusta prové d’explotacions forestals amb ubicacions conegudes on els arbres es van replantant a un ritme que permet la renovació dels boscos.

This piece is part of RUGS, a project in which I explore the endless applications of tribal carpet remnants—reinterpreting sections and highlighting their beauty, historical, and cultural value.

This work connects us to history, traditional craftsmanship, and the intrinsic artistry woven into every thread of these carpets.

Designed and reinterpreted at the O TÈXTIL atelier in Vulpellac.

Material:
Kilim: A piece of Kurdish origin from the eastern part of Turkey, in East Anatolia.
Early 20th century – Natural dyes.
Frame: 12 x 12 x 2 cm, made of responsibly sourced FSC*-certified wood.

The framing process involves repurposing small fragments of tribal carpets—Ushak and Kilim—rescued from restorations of larger pieces, isolating their symbolism. This practice invites us to focus on the messages they convey, much like underlining a sentence in a text. We can admire the natural dyes, observe the intricate geometric patterns, and in some cases, even glimpse the warp—the very skeleton of the fabric—revealed by wear.

Kilim rugs are a type of pileless textile woven using the tapestry technique, dating back approximately 3,500 years. Nomadic peoples from Central Asia originally created them to cover the floors and walls of their tents, offering protection against the cold or heat. They were also used to line saddles, cover luggage, and protect animals during long journeys.

The wood for this frame comes from responsibly managed forests, helping to preserve natural resources and biodiversity. It is sourced from known forestry operations where trees are replanted at a rate that ensures the renewal of forests.
